The 17 third-graders learned about being safe around dogs and cats and ways to recognize the signals that dogs send to let us know whether they are ready to play, frightened, or feeling friendly or guarded. They also learned important "do's and don'ts" of caring for pets.
The group enjoyed visiting with Maggie as they listened to the book May I Pet Your Dog? read by Susan Longley. This great book walks kids through the right way for a child to approach a dog to ensure that the first connection is a complete success.
Finally, the students were given tools and educational materials to take home and share with their families and friends, including info and fun stuff from AARF and Petfinder.
A big thank-you goes out to the Roots and Shoots group, their teacher Missy Schuessler, and parent Susan Longley!

We had a great time with the AARF leaders and are looking forward to having you next year for our Roots & Shoots 4th graders. Your program was a great hit and interest to all of the students. Thanks again for all the info.
