And the Oscar Goes To...Animals!

American Humane is the only organization allowed to watch over the safety of animals on the sets of movies, TV shows, commercials and music videos. Before taping beings with an animal, a American Humane Certified Animals Safety Representatives must be on set to make sure all the American Humane's "Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media" are followed.

Let's meet one of the Animal Super Stars!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua
One of the lead dogs that played "Papi" was a day away from being euthanized before a trainer discovered him in a California shelter. The dog now lives with the movie's head trainer. Many trainers find their animals at animal shelters.

Tips for Recognizing and Caring for a Sick Pet

Here's what to watch for:
- Animals will try to hide their sickness.
- Be aware of any little changes in your pet's appearance or behavior; this may mean your pet is sick
- Know which signs means it is an emergency; such as a bloated, hard tummy, excessive vomiting or diarrhea, seizures, and inability to stand up. Call a vet right away if you see any of these signs.
- Once your pet has been to the vet, make sure you follow all your vets instructions, including diet and medication.
- Report any worsening symptoms or new ones to your vet immediately.
- Make sure your pet finishes all medications, and you take your pet back for a check up.
